Connect a New Computer or Router to Your Existing Modem
To connect a new device to your Insight Broadband cable modem (computer/router/game console, etc.), you will need to complete a simple refreshing process of your equipment in order for your newly connected device to acquire an IP address and be ready to connect to the Internet.
After you've connected the new device with your Insight Broadband cable modem, follow the steps below in chronological order:
STEP 1: Power cycle the cable modem. Unplug the power cord (the small black wire) from the back of the cable modem and wait approximately 30 seconds, then plug it back in. The lights on the cable modem will begin to flash as it boots up. After the modem has fully rebooted (usually between 30 seconds and 2 minutes after restoring power) proceed to Step 2.
STEP 2: If you've connected a router or other networking device, power cycle the router by unplugging the AC power cord from the back and waiting approximately 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back in. After your router has booted up (usually between 30 seconds and 2 minutes after restoring power), restart the computer(s) connected to the router.
NOTE: If you have not connected a router, but just a computer or gaming console, reboot the machine after you've power cycled and fully rebooted the cable modem. When the computer/gaming console is fully rebooted and in correct working order, it will automatically acquire an IP address from Insight Broadband and be ready to access the Internet.
